LDAPviewer

LDIF Import

LDAPviewer will import any valid LDIF file which may add, delete, modify or rename any entries determined by its contents.

The user is prompted to select the LDIF as shown:

LDIF import - file chooser

Navigate to the appropriate directory and select the required LDIF, or Cancel to terminate the command.

LDIF import is a 2 pass process. The first pass enumerates the number of entries in the LDIF and will display the following progress window:.

LDIF import - progress

The second pass executes all the entries in the LDIF and in this the pass the text message will change from Enumerating... to Reading x of y.

The operation may be terminated at any time by clicking the Cancel button on the progress window. If Canceled during the Enumerating... pass the DIT will be unchanged. If Canceled during the Reading.. pass the DIT will be left in an indeterminate state and the user will need to manually inspect the DIT Tree to determine any remedial action.

Note: Small LDIFs (typically containing < 30 - 40 entries) will execute so quickly that the progress bar will not be visible.

On successful completion of the LDIF a confirmation message will be output as shown:

LDIF import - confirm

If an error occurs an explanatory message, similar to that shown, is ouput:

LDIF import - confirm

The user should carefully read the error message and, perhaps in conjunction with manual DIT Tree inspection, take appropriate remedial action.
