firstChild attribute

Returns the first (top) Node that is a child of the current node. If there are none it will return NULL.

Syntax

firstnode = node.firstChild;

// get the first child of existing node

first = currentnode.firstChild;
if(first)
{
  // node exists
  if(first.nodeType == 3)
