Administration and Configuration

Overview

All ZyTrax routing equipment provides the following management and control features:

• SNMP for control and configuration.

• Newer routing equipment is configurable by a web interface which uses the standard SNMP MIB variable names.

• Telnet for read only diagnostic access.

• Access Control Lists are used to limit, on a hierarchical basis, what management features may be accessed.

• A GUI based configuration utility that runs on all Windows platforms and with an embedded Router Wizard. New versions of this utility will use a web based interface.

• A user network and router monitor tool (Zing).

• SNMP 'TRAP' support for error reporting and intrusion detection.

The following sections describe the key features of the Administration and Control systems.

Coolfig Utility

HotPools routing equipment is configured using the GUI based CoolFig utility that runs on Windows 95, 98 and 2000 and NT (3.5.x and 4.x) platforms and provides the following features:

• Router Wizard for Client, Server, Proxy and HotPool configurations

• Multiple router management

• Auto IP address allocation using ZyFIND technology.

• Multi-level views for easier configuration.

• 'Drill-down' to SNMP view.

New versions of this utility are migrating to a web based interface to allow a greater variety of host support

Zing

Zing is a user run time utility that provides the following features:

• Status of the ZyTrax router

• For wired connections the status of the connection.

• Status of the first 'n' hops in the network.

• Performance and usage summary for the preceeding 24 hours.

• Current performance and throughput of ZyTrax routing products.

Zing requires no user configuration and provides diagnostic information in the event of service access problems. It is designed to both provide the user with a level of confort and to minimize the support calls to the ISP or Intranet operator. When a problem does exists ZING collects information to simplify and speed up the diagnostic and support role of the operator.

RADIUS Support

HotPools™ may be configured to support RADIUS interworking for:

• Security and authentication
• IP address allocation
• Accounting

The RADIUS interface is defined by RFC 2865 (Authentication) 2866 (Accounting) and updated from time to time by the IETF.
