Some notes about using native rubygems under FreeBSD, that is when issuing commands of the form gem xxx.
If a port uses native extensions (outputs Buiding native extension and then normally crashes!) then for FreeBSD a prefix of /usr/local is required as shown:
# if the gem uses native extensions to the ruby interpreter system gem install gem-name -- --prefix=/usr/local
