Connection openers..

The following is a list compiled from our experiences of applications that may cause an Internet connection to either stay open longer than necessary or continually keep a link open.

1. E-mail checker programs that constantly monitor and get e-mail will cause a link to open on a periodic basis. Depending on the volume of e-mail you can receive or the number of people using such programs links can stay open for long periods.
2. PointCast or another similar news ticker service.
3. ICQ set in LAN mode will check for messages every 25 - 35 seconds.
4. Yahoo with a stock sticker turned on.

Solutions

Use a Time Service feature from ZyTrax and have the ZERO option set for periods when you are not using the router. You can always 'temporarily' open the link if required.
